What To Know About This Production
This play is the premier stage adaptation of a book of the same name, by Simon Edge.
The End of the World is Flat is a satirical comedy featuring a map focused foundation, a tech billionaire, and a global delusion. Mel Winterbourne is the founder of a small, single-issue charity in the obscure field of mapmaking. Its success in achieving modest aims attracts the attention of handsome tech billionaire Joey Talavera. Mel is booted from her charity, replaced by Shane Foxley, who's mission, funded by Joey, is to convince the world that the earth is flat. Although his chances of doing so seem slim, Flat Earthery is an idea whose time has come. Old-style ‘globularism’ becomes heretical for a new generation of angry, anti-Establishment free-thinkers. Teachers, politicians, and celebrities face ruin if they refuse to sign up to the new orthodoxy. For Mel, something must be done. Teaming up with a pariah journalist, she sets out to challenge Talavera and his deranged beliefs. Will history and the billionaire’s own family origins be their unexpected ally? A mix of history and satire pokes fun at modern foibles that may be much more relevant than you think.
Rehearsals will probably be Tuesday and Thursday nights, and Sunday during the day, starting the week of 19 May 2025. This schedule may be flexible, depending on what suits people, and in what character they may be cast.
Opening night will be Friday 8th August 2025, with a tech week of 1 tech and 2 dress rehearsals from Tuesday August 5th, to opening night on Friday August 8th. The season will run for three weeks, Friday, Saturday nights, and a Sunday Matinee each week.
