On Friday 11 July 1947, a public meeting was convened in the Mackay Town Hall, ‘for the purpose of forming a dramatic society for Mackay’, and the Mackay Community Theatre was born. Over the years the group went through a couple of name changes, from Mackay Community Theatre through Kudos Theatre to its current identity: Kucom Theatre.
Kucom presents four mainstage productions each year - typically, three full-length plays and a season of one-act plays - in a purpose-built theatre with an audience capacity of 100.
We are looking forward to celebrating our 80th year of continuous operation as Mackay's oldest community theatre in 2027.
