• Elphaba Female 18-35 Elphaba is the main protagonist, who becomes known as the Wicked Witch of the West She is an intelligent, honest, likeable but misunderstood Her internal goodness is juxtaposed to the oppression of the world around her a conflict she battles internally and externally We are looking for an exceptional actress with an outstanding, powerful poprock voice to match An understudy will be selected for Elphaba and will perform two shows
• Glinda Female 18-35 Glinda is a complex character, nowhere near as superficial as she seems at first She is as cunning as she is bubbly, a passionate, popular and loveable individual who uses her intelligence and social standing to manipulate her colleagues and friends Becoming known as Glinda the Good, she also wrestles with the disparity between her social and moral values Vocally, Glinda requires a high soprano and vocal belt and a strong sense of comic timing An understudy will be selected for G(a)linda and will perform two shows
• Madame Morrible Female 30-65 Madame Morrible is a dark, conniving and cunning character Highly manipulative, seductive and inherently evil, she has no internal conflict as to the nature of her character She has a strong understanding of the power of fear and machinations of public propaganda Morrible requires a very strong, confident and powerful performer
• Fiyero Male 18-35 Fiyero is a seemingly one-dimensional character, but has significantly more substance than his striking looks suggest Social, affable and lovable, Fiyero is fun, smooth and at times naive He is intelligent and torn by the social demands of vanity, peer pressure and propaganda Fiyero will need to be a good dancer with a strong poprock voice
• Nessarose Female 18-35 Nessarose is Elphabas beautiful, intelligent sister Wheelchair-bound, Nessarose is their fathers favourite, and her paralysis underpins an insecurity that drives her need for social acceptance Abandonment, an unreciprocated love and the pressures of government drive Nessarose to an internal conflict that ultimately affects her character
• Boq Male 18-35 Boq is an insecure, dorky and quirky character A lovable munchkin (considerably smaller in stature than Fiyero), Boq is infatuated with Glinda and will do anything to please her Later, Boqs passionately misinformed rage helps drive the hunt for Elphaba Boq has a good sense of comic timing and is a strong character actor He also requires a strong tenor voice
• The Wizard Male 30-65 The Wizard is a softly spoken, blindly confident, easily influenced, superficial person A metaphorical example of the corruption of power through false representation, the wizard trades his morality for popularity His grand faade is a representation of his false power He is a charlatan who understands politics, but perhaps not the fragility of his own character The Wizard requires a strong character actor and a strong vocal baritone
• Dr Dillamond Male 30-65 Dr Dillamond is the moral compass A teacher of life sciences and a philosopher, he is warm, noble and fatherly He is also a goat, and as such, is an active campaigner for equal rights His individualism is reflected in his intellect, morality and strength of character Again, Dr Dillamond requires a strong character actor, comic timing and a baritone voice
• Dorothy Gale Dorothy minor character in the Broadway musical, Wicked even though Dorothy plays an important role in this story, her face is never seen in the musical, only her silhouette

• Frex Male 18-35 Frexspar is Elphaba and Nessaroses father He is the Governor of Munchkinland He adores Nessarose and dotes on her, but wonders if Elphaba might not even legitimately be his child (and possibly hopes that she is not) He shirks his duties as Elphabas father, ashamed
• Melena Female 18-35 Melena has an affair with a traveling salesman, that leads to the birth of her daughter, Elphaba She dies giving birth to Nessarose, an event that is mentioned, but happens offstage Her husband, Frex, forced her to take milk flower drugs to keep her from giving birth to
• Ensemble Male and Female 16-60 The ensemble comprises students, citizens, guards and various minor characters All ensemble members need to be able to move be strong singers and actors
• Dancers Male and Female 16-35 Dancers will also be students, monkeys, guards and citizens Dancers are not required to be good singers (you will still be expected to sing) but are required to be strong dancers and actors
