What To Know About This Production
The Pirates of Penzance is a comic operetta about a young man named Frederic who was mistakenly apprenticed to a band of soft-hearted pirates. Due to a massive sense of duty, he struggles to break free from his criminal ties while trying to secure the love of a beautiful woman named Mabel. Creswick Theatre Company are staging a Concert style version of the musical. This will include all the dialogue and some blocking, as well as all the usual fun and shenanigans of a G&S production.

What To Expect At Auditions
Information Night
There will be an information night held at the Creswick Courthouse Theatre from 7pm on Monday 6th July. Details about the production will be shared at this session, plus you'll be able to have a look at the rehearsal/performance space if you haven't been to the theatre before. All your questions about the production will be able to be answered on this evening as well.
Audition Information
Auditions will be held at the Creswick Courthouse Theatre. Come into the foyer and be warmly greeted by one of the team, and then wait in the foyer until called for your audition. We recommend you plan to be at the theatre 15min before your audition so you can relax and be ready to audition. And remember that the creative team that you'll be auditioning for want you to succeed, so just be yourself and enjoy the process.
The audition should take 10-12min. They will be individual auditions not group ones. There will not be any separate choreography audition, so your one audition slot is all you need. We will do a cold read of some Pirates dialogue with you.
What kind of song should you prepare? Pick something that suits your voice/range and something that is akin to the sort of songs that will be sung in the production. You can sing a song from the show, or something not from it, and you don't have to sing a G&S number, just make sure you pick something that you feel will highlight your ability to sing in a G&S production. You should bring backing music on a device. We'll have the speaker if you need one. We would prefer you don't sing A Capella.
And don't forget to relax and enjoy yourself!!!

Frederic
A member of the Pirates. He is unaffected and possesses an unself-conscious sex appeal. Youthful, genuine and innocent. Gender: Male presenting.

Mabel
Daughter of the Major-General. Mabel is a classic beauty. An astute young woman, she is sympathetic in nature. She and Frederic fall in love. Gender: Female presenting

Pirate King
Leader of the pirates. Despite his sharp and loud bark, he is a whole-hearted romantic with a soft bite. A handsome man often with open shirt and wind in his hair. Gender: Male presenting

Major-General
A father with many daughters. He resembles a male Queen Victoria in his sensibilities. Possesses kindness, warmth, and good-humor. The love for his daughters is undeniable.

Ruth
Frederic's lifelong nanny. A sneaky Mrs. Potts, she wants nothing more in life than to see Frederic happy, healthy, and by her side. Gender: Female presenting

Daughter of the Major-General. Quick-witted and rather sassy. She, like her other sisters, is strikingly beautiful. Gender: Female presenting

Edith
Daughter of the Major-General. Though a level-headed girl, she is quite mischievous. Very beautiful and the eldest of the daughters. Gender: Female presenting

Samuel
The Pirate King's right-hand man. Samuel is clever but easily manipulated and influenced.

The leader of the police. He is Groucho Marx-esque and uncomfortably clumsy. Though his duty to protect is clear, the Sergeant and his police are more accustomed to fear and hide.
