Auditions For The Pilgrim's Progress

What To Expect At Auditions

Audition sign-ups open on Cast98 in July!
When is the next audition?
Auditions for The Pilgrim’s Progress will take place on October 17th and October 24th at New Song Bible Church, located at:
470250 US-95
Sagle, ID 83860

Actor Auditions: 10:00 AM on October 17th

Choir Auditions: 10:00 AM on October 24th

Note: Participants can audition for an acting role, the choir, or both.

Is it a musical?
No, but like other HPP productions there will be a strong musical element to include dancing and an original score.

How does it work?
To audition, create a free Cast98 account and sign up for either the male or female audition time once registration becomes available. Your Cast98 profile can be used for this and future productions.

For those auditioning for an acting role, please prepare a monologue of your choice that is between one and five minutes long. Your monologue may come from a play, movie, speech, scripture passage, or another source you enjoy, including material found online.

For those auditioning for the choir, no prepared song is required. Simply come ready to learn and perform an excerpt from a song at the audition. Please note that choir auditionees must be willing to sing a solo during their audition.

Who can audition?
Anyone age 16 or older may audition for an acting role or for the choir.

There are 57 characters in this play, and because nearly all of them appear in a single scene, most actors will be double cast. We anticipate casting approximately 20–30 actors.

Our goal for the choir is to maintain a balanced sound across all vocal parts, so the final size of the choir will depend in part on the audition pool. We hope to have a choir of at least 25 singers, with a maximum of 50.

Read about the characters here.

Do I need experience to audition?
Nope! This is community theatre. Whether a seasoned pro or newbie you are welcome.

Can I audition for the choir if I’m not an experienced singer?
Yes! There are no prerequisites for auditioning for the choir other than a willingness to sing by yourself during the audition.

What if I want a specific role?
You’ll have the chance to indicate which roles you’re interested in and which ones you’d prefer to avoid on your audition form. While no roles are guaranteed, we do our best to place people where they’ll be happiest and most successful.

Please note: all actors, except those cast as the lead Christian/Pilgrim or the Whisperers, will play multiple roles throughout the production.

Read about the characters here.

Will everyone who auditions get a role?
While casting or choir placement is not guaranteed, the production’s large cast and our openness to a sizable choir provide many opportunities for auditionees to be included.

What is the time commitment?
The choir will rehearse once a week on Tuesdays, while actors will rehearse on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Rehearsals begin on November 4th and will be held at New Song Bible Church.

The production will play for two weekends at The Panida, with the addition of a seventh public performance for this run. Evening performances will be held on Friday, March 26; Saturday, March 27; Friday, April 2; and Saturday, April 3. Matinee performances will be held on Saturday, March 27 (doubleheader); Saturday, April 3 (doubleheader); and Sunday, April 4.

Opening night will be on Good Friday. There will be no performance on Easter. A private charity performance for children will be held on Thursday, April 1.

You can find the full rehearsal calendar here.

Will childcare be provided?
Not this time. We don’t expect this cast to be predominantly dads so we will not be providing childcare.

What does it cost to participate?
Actors will need to provide their own shoes, appropriate undergarments, occasionally basic clothing items and stage makeup for the show. While Honey Pearl Productions will not be purchasing makeup, we will guide you on what to buy and show you how to apply it correctly. Everything else is covered by us!

How will I find out if I am cast?
Everyone will find out whether or not they’ve been cast in the same order: newsletter subscribers will be notified first, then the cast list will be posted on social media, and finally, a direct email will be sent to all who auditioned.

Are there other ways to get involved?
Yes! We are always in need of more volunteers to do a variety of tasks from stage crew to set building to helping take tickets at the door! Please inquire if you are interested in getting involved.

How do I sign up to audition?
Create an account and select a time slot at Cast98.com.

(Time Slots will open in July.)
