What To Know About This Production
Show Info
Hey Everyone!
Welcome back to Wyoming HS Drama and MT! I am really excited to get started on our 26-27 Season. I'm especially ready to get back to work with all of you amazing folks. Remember - our theme for the whole year is seeing. This does not necessarily mean literally. Seeing people for who they are. Seeing with things other than our eyes.
Our first play we are doing is The Miracle Worker by William Gibson. This is an excellent play and will be a great challenge for us - I love a challenge.
We never want to settle, right? :)
Below is a description of the play from the publishing company:
Immortalized on screen by Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke, this Tony Award-winning play is the story of Annie Sullivan and her student, Helen Keller, who lost her sight and hearing at the age of 19 months. With compassion, humor and dramatic tension, The Miracle Worker explores the volatile relationship between a lonely teacher and her headstrong charge.
Trapped in a secret, silent world, unable to communicate, young Helen is violent and spoiled, treated by her family as subhuman. Only Annie sees a mind and spirit waiting to be rescued from Helen's dark, tortured silence. After scenes of intense physical and emotional struggle, Helen's breakthrough finally arrives with the utterance of a single, glorious word: "water."
I look forward to auditions and to getting this show on the road!

Production Info
Auditions and Callbacks are September 1st and 2nd. Performances are November 6 and 7th. Conflicts are not allowed during tech week, November 2-5, as well as our performances dates and strike, November 6-8. Please review your schedules before auditioning to make sure you are available that week.
Rehearsals take place on week days from 6pm-9pm. You may not be called to every rehearsal! I only call people for the pages we are working on that day. That typically applies to the beginning of the process. As the show gets closer and closer, we will have more all-calls. We also often end before 9pm most rehearsals, but we have 6-9 blocked out if we need the full time.
There will be a small t-shirt fee, and we will need all t-shirt money at the beginning of our process. This will communicated to you all at our first rehearsal.
Auditions For The Miracle Worker
What To Expect At Auditions
General Info
Auditions will take place September 1st from 6pm-8pm in the theatre. Please sign up for one 15-min slot. Three people per slot, my goal is to see 3 students every 15 mins. We should be able to stay relatively on schedule. If we somehow run out of time slots, those can be added to the end of the night.
When you sign up for a slot, please include both your email and a parent email somewhere on there. This parent email will be used for communication about tech week and other important things.
Callbacks are September 2nd from 6pm-8pm in the theatre. Please note that if you do not get called back, that does NOT mean that you are not being considered for this show.
Full Transparency Time - my goal, as it was last year, is to cast everyone who auditions. However, as our program grows and gains more people, it may become harder and harder to cast everyone, especially in a play. But I hope that we will be able to make it work again!
Audition Requirements
Please bring in a 1-min monologue of your choice, but one that is not from this play. You can choose to do a comedic monologue, but I would lean toward a dramatic one. I ask that you practice at home with a timer so you do not go too far past a minute. I won't cut you off if you're 5 seconds over, but I might if you are 20+ seconds over.
This monologue can be from any time period - classical, contemporary, Shakespeare, etc. Choose a monologue with the show in mind - the characters, the stories the play tells. I would like your monologue to be a reflection of either the show or the role you are auditioning for.
If you need help finding a monologue, please send me an email! While I probably won't just give you a monologue, I can help you find some sources where you can find one that you'll feel successful doing.
I may ask you to do your monologue again with some direction. We will likely have a brief conversation about yourself, and I may even ask you a question about the play. It would be advantageous to read the play before auditions, because who knows... I could ask about something specific...

Callback Info
Callbacks will take place on September 2nd from 6pm-8pm in the theatre. This is a loose end time, as we may run over a little if necessary. I ask that all who are called back to show up at 6, and you are dismissed when either the SMs or I release you. We also may not need the full 2 hours. It will all be dependent on what I see in Auditions.
I also may not call every role back for this show. The roles that will definitely have callbacks are Annie and Helen. If you are called back for either Annie or Helen, be mentally prepared to tell a silent story with a scene partner. It will not be in the context of the show, so don't try to plan the specifics for your scene ahead of time. I will give each set of scene partners their own story to create. There will also be cold read sides for every role that is called back, not just those two.
