• Fredrik Edgerman : A successful widowed middle-aged lawyer. He is married to the 18-year-old Anne for 11 months (they have not consummated their marriage) and has one son from his precious marriage, Henrik. In the past, he and Desiree were lovers. (appears to be in his 50-60’s) Baritone A2-E4
• Anne Edgerman Fredrick’s new, frivolous and naïve wife, who is still a virgin after 11 months of marriage. (Character plays 18 years of age) Soprano G#3-A5
• Henrik Edgerman Fredrik’s son and Anne’s “stepson”. He is serious but confused; he reads the works of philosophers and theologians whilst studying for the Lutheran priesthood. His sexual repression is a great cause of his turmoil, as he lusts after Anne and attempts to have a comedic sexual encounter with Petra. (Character plays 20 years old) Tenor G2-B4
• Petra Anne’s maid and closet confidante, brash, bold and flirtatious. She has attempted relations with Henrik and a tryst with Frid. (Character plays 18-22 years old) Mezzo-soprano F#3-F5
• Desiree Armfeldt Self-absorbed, once-successful actress, now touring the countryside in what is clearly not the “glamorous life”. Harbored love for Fredrick for years since their affair. Had a child, Fredricka , from her affair with Fredrick unbeknownst to him. (Character plays 40-50 years old) Mezzo-soprano F#3-E5
• Fredrika Armfeldt Desiree’s thirteen-year-old daughter, who is product (unbeknownst to Fredrik) of the actress’s and Fredrik’s affair. She is wise beyond her years. ( Character plays 13 years old) Soprano C4-E5
• Madame Armfeldt Desiree’s mother, a former courtesan who has had “liaisons” with royalty. She is elegant, witty and sharp as a tack! (Character’s plays in her 60's - 70’s) Contralto C3-F#4
• Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm A military dragoon who is Desiree’s latest lover. Hypocritically places value on fidelity, being hugely possessive when it comes to both his wife and mistress. (Character plays 45-60 years old) Baritone G2-F#4
• Countess Charlotte Malcolm Carol-Magnus’ wife, to whom he flaunts his infidelities. She despises her husband for his behavior, but obeys his orders due to her hopeless love for him. Self-loathing, yet the more intelligent half of the Malcom couple. (Character plays 30's - 40’s) Mezzo-soprano G3-F5
• The Quintet MR. LINDQUIST, MRS. NORDSTROM, MRS. ANDERSON, MR. ERLANSON AND MRS. SEGSTROM: A group of five singers that act as a Greek chorus. The narrate the story starting with singing the Overture. They have multiple responsibilities playing multiple characters.
• Mr Erlanson/Frid/Quintet Madame Armfeldt’s personal butler and other characters.. He has a tryst with Petra. Plays age 25 to 50 Tenor G#2 - A#4
• Mrs Nordstrom/Malla/Quintet Desiree’s maid, who is with her constantly, and other characters.. Soprano G#3 - A#5
